It's Not What We Do; It's Who We Are
I Corinthians 13:1-3 "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing." (NKJV)
Love: Not In The Way We Think
God looks at the heart not the actions. Society says love is an action. But accoding to this chapter we see love is in the heart, inspired by God. Our actions are then inspired by the love of God in our hearts.
I believe this scripture isn't just to show us HOW we are to love others, ourselves, and God, our Father, the living Truth. It also shows how HE loves US!
God isn't necessarily concerned with what we do, but who we are. He is not looking for someone who is proficient in their gifts, how knowledgeable they are of Him and His Word, how strong their faith is in Him, or the amount of
'good' they have have done for others. Though these things are great things, but they are only a by-product of being a child of God, loving Him, and being loved by Him. These 'works' alone do not gurantee a years worth of a shot gun spot in the front seat . He is rather more concerned of our hearts, and Him loving us in a personal relational way.
Lie: Do More, You'll Be More
In some ways I can relate to this myself. Often times I critizce myself for not spending enough time with Him, which always leaves me with the thoughts of "I have to do more to be more! I have be more for Him to use me." This is only a lie from satan, because God never once said that to me or within His word! But even if I did spend the allotted time I designed for myself, it will still leave me with the feeling of not doing or being enough. But God says that He loves me just as I am.
The Attitude of the Heart
It's out of our hearts for God that we can achieve these things in Him successfully. It is just like our "giving" where He says that He desires a "cheerful giver", which is an attitude of one's heart. So, it is in love that we are not just making noises when speaking in tongues. We are "somebodies" when walking in our prophetic giftings, and moving mountains with our faith in the Lord. We also gain a reward when giving to the poor in LOVE! What is the reward? The reward is being able to express, share, and witness our Father's love to others. The greater reward is to someone recieve and accept His love into their heart and have become our new found bro or sis in Christ! The privilege to see God work in another person's life! This is the reward of walking in our Father's love! We all become blessed!
It's Not What We Do, But Who We Are
So, it's not in what we do; nor is it what God does to show His love towards us. But rather He IS LOVE and We are LOVED by Him, and we are inspired by this Love that we begin to love Him, ourselves, and others. The "great" things we do are a product or an expression of THIS GREAT LOVE exchange! It's our appreciation and gratitude for His perfect Love in our lives!
Let Us Rest in Him Alone
Instead of desiring the works, lets rest and abide in our Father's Love for us today. Lets enjoy being a son or daughter of God. Lets chase after Him instead. After all, being a child of God is our purpose! We were created for Him, by Him and through Him. We were created for His Love! Lets rest in this truth today. And seek Him with our WHOLE hearts. Be blessed!

I think it is amazing that as we become closer to God that we begin treating ourselves and others with more kindness and as He would. I love that gift that faith can provide us!
ReplyDeleteHey Autumn! thanks so much for responding! I def.couldn't agree with you more. Loving God and others, including ourselves, def.makes life so much better and beautiful
DeleteThis is a really great reminder. We've been looking at Sabbath in our ministry this month and that reminder to rest and let God breathe into our life rather than trying to do all by ourselves is completely life giving for me.
ReplyDeleteI love this so much. I'm so amazed daily by Gods love and forgiveness. Thanks so much for sharing. Is it messy in here? | Life As Lex
