"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." -Matthew 11:28-30 (NKJV)
I was in my car one night, praying to the Lord about a specific situation. As He had me recite this very same scripture from memory, He dropped this revelation in my spirit:
We take on more weight, or burden upon ourselves than the Lord initially purposed. The Lord's burden is one that will lead one into prayer. The beauty of His burden? That we are not alone carrying this weight in our hearts. Rather, we have rest in Him, knowing that He is carrying the weight with us. A burden that the Lord may place upon our hearts during a season can be (but are not limited to) a city, a people, a purpose, a mission.
Example, a missionary may feel a strong heavy weight to pray for a nation such as Asia, and may even feel the calling to go and create disciples in that region. Another could be like a prophet. As watch men, their burdens are for the people of the Lord. Now, this can look differently from prophet to prophet. Their focus could be for them to know their true identity in Him, or maybe living in alignment to His will. Maybe even preparation for His return. Maybe even for the Bride to come back and fall in love with her First LOVE, again.
From an individual perspective, another burden could be your inner man. Maybe God is challenging your belief system, your will, your theology or ideology. Your will, faith, or He could even stretch you to learn that He is God and when He says He has it, He has it! (I'm talking about Trust right here!) These are all examples of what a burden of the Lord can look like in various forms.
However there are burdens we have taken upon ourselves that He never asked us to take on. In turn, these unnecessary burdens become dead weight and excess baggage. A few examples of these (but are not limited to) are unforgiveness, guilt, shame, self condemnation, sin, and more.
There is however one more that He has shown me in particular that night. This baggage that I am going to share with you may take you as a shock. But don't let it. (I will make another blog post in the future to go further in depth with this revelation and scripture above. Stay tuned)
Brokenness.
Not just any type of brokenness. But the agreement of the spirit of brokenness. Someone has either spoken to you or done something wrong to you, which resulted in brokenness. Not only has it created a burden, but you have identified yourself with this brokenness. This has now taken form on your personality and who you are. You have allowed yourself to become this brokenness. Which then results in unforgiveness, guilt, shame, depression when not dealt with wisely.
What if I told you that You had the power to be broken, or not to be broken. Would you believe me? The truth is, YOU DO! Just because someone has spoken or done something against you, doesn't mean that you have to result into brokenness. You have the POWER to rise above your emotions. You have POWER in choosing your response! Do not let it create wounds inside of you.
Ungodly spirits LOVES to live in those dark places. That's where they feed and fester. Think of them as that nasty bacteria that creates an infection of an opened wound when not taken cared of.
NASTY!! Right?! Ok, so following this illustration, picture Holy Spirit's pruning your heart as that peroxide or rubbing alcohol on that wound that stings like heck, but definitely needed to heal and clean all the gunk out of that wound.
Now, picture Jesus as the ointment and band-aid to soothe and and complete the healing process.
To complete this illustration, imagine God, the Father, as the the Dad (because He is ☺ ) completing the process, as He pours His Spirit, smooths His Son, and adds the covering to that wound, and even Kisses the boo boo and smiles to make it feel better. As the band-aid is on the wound, it helps to keep the wound from getting any more nasty bacteria and infected. Jesus is not only the anointing, but our covering.
(I don't know why I'm going this way, but I'm just going to roll with it. Lol. The Lord is speaking to someone here!)
When you notice you have an open wound that needs healing, run to Jesus. Don't let it marinate. Don't give a foothold to the devil. If someone made you upset, don't return the favor! Don't let it fester. Instead, run to Jesus! In your mind, in your thoughts, in your heart. You have control in your responses. Don't receive another baggage that Jesus didn't give you! There's always purpose for baggage, and growth.
His burden is LIGHT! It's not heavy, it doesn't cause depression. Anything He does is GOOD because He is GOOD! (Matthew 7: 9-11) And He ONLY think GOOD things towards us! (Jeremiah 29:11/Psalm 139:17) Anything opposite of this is not given from Him. He is not like man!
His burden is LIGHT! But He also said, His Yoke is EASY! EASY means just that, EASY! Effortless. The Yoke Jesus is referencing is not egg yoke, but the yoke two oxen would wear when being used for labor. It helps them to stay in tune and on the same path with one another. Guess who are the oxen? We are one, and God is the other. One is the leader, the other has to follow the leader. He says His YOKE is EASY! Effortless.
All we need to do take rest, is to follow Him! Let go of the unnecessary burden/ dead weights He didn't give nor asked us to carry, and stay in step, in tune with Him. His heart, His spirit. It's easier.
We can rest in Him, and rest knowing that we're not on this journey alone! We can rest in just BEING a son or daughter, and let go of the dead weight. You are not the result of what was said or done to you. That is something they need to take to the Lord. Be in step with Him. Become restful and watchful in this season. Learn to discern which burden comes from Him, and which are thrown at us. When you learn this, you learn REST. True REST!
Could you see yourself in this message? Are there any burdens you're currently holding and need to let go or need prayer! Please share with us! Any insights the Lord gave to you that you would like to share? Please post it below!
