WORSHIP WEDNESDAY | KNOWING THE WHY

"Know your why!" This is a quote we are all familiar with, especially regarding to the fitness industry. Though, as simple as it may be, it is quite a powerful quote. There was a time in the past I was skeptic, however. But, after surrendering to the Lord in starting a health journey with Him, I have learned all too well the strength this phrase carries.


The Power Behind Knowing the Why! & how it relates to Worship:
Well, for starters, knowing your why gets you to focus or determine your goal, the true goal at hand. Now, this goal must be something that is attainable, and non-superficial. Once you determine your goal, or the outcome, it helps you to remember WHY it's worth passing through the obstacles or fighting the battle that comes.

For example: In past years I wanted to lose weight so that I could fit clothes that I couldn't fit. Failed. Tried again, and gave up. It wasn't until last year that the TRUE desire for health became evident in my life. 2015-2016 were some hard seasons in life. I gave up dancing, without realizing I gave up. (I'm a praise dancer.) The Lord led me to get up and keep dancing. One day, He pressed on my heart a particular song to dance at my church. Typically, when my sis and I dance, the songs are anywhere from 7+ minutes long. This particular song was 8-10 min, and my sister is in Texas. I should be used to this, right? Nope. Within the 5 min mark, I gave up, motioned to them to keep playing the song. Meanwhile, I'm sitting on the ledge of the wall trying to catch my breath, and trying to ignore the cramps on my side. "Okay, God, I hear you!"  It was then I knew I needed to get HEALTHY and to gain endurance to fulfill the ministry He has placed in my life. A year later, I have noticed a huge transformation in my health, but there is always room for growth!

KNOW YOUR WHY and keep it before you!

Knowing the why will help you keep focused, and fight through the battles and obstacles that come when trying to achieve the very thing you desire. I don't know about you, but in life, it can be really hard to worship God in certain seasons. It's hard to try and worship Him when facing a life or death situation, or when things are going chaotic around you, maybe you just lost your job, or maybe someone hurt you and it's hard for you to forgive and move on, right? I mean, how can one willingly get up and worship God in these type of circumstances? (I think a conversation with Job from the Bible is due! haha) This is when the 'Why' comes back into mind. 'WHY do you worship Jesus?' It shifts our focus back to Jesus, and off of ourselves and circumstances.

The Why
Why do you worship Him? Collectively, we worship Him not only for what He does, but ultimately for who He is. He does these things because it's in Him to do them. It's a part of Who He is. It's in His heart to do them. We worship Him, because He IS Holy. He IS LOVE. He is TRUTH. He is WORTHY. He is AWESOME! He is ALL Knowing! 

To worship Him collectively is good, but to worship Him personally is AMAZING! To worship Him personally is intertwining worship with relationship (our sole purpose of existence.) So, why do YOU worship Him!

>>Make it Personal<<

It's time to make this personal. This is where you get out your pen/pencil, paper, and begin to write your WHY. Why do you PERSONALLY worship Him? I can give a few examples from my list of 'whys' to help you get started. 

1. He is Worthy ALL the time, and because He is a good Father!
2. I feel closest to Him in worship, and His truths exposes the lies
3. Worship is a weapon against the enemy, and it causes destruction to enemy's camp/kingdom.
4. It shifts my perspective/and or atmosphere, and helps me to enter His presence (become more aware of His presence)
5.  I have experienced His faithfulness in life.
6. He loves me, and calls me His own, and He proves it every time
7. It encourages/creates intimacy (or a closer bond) between us
8. I see Him more clearly, and hear Him clearly
9. I LOVE HIM!
10. I was MADE FOR THIS!

CHALLENGE: 
Make a list of reasons WHY you worship Him! I want you take this list and create reminders for yourself. Place them on sticky notes, write on your bathroom mirror, carry a note book, stick one in your bible, put one in your lunch, stick one in your wallet or car. I don't know, where ever you think you will look back to be reminded of your 'why'. ANY time satan, distractions, circumstances of life, and etc tries to pop up and get you off course, keep your WHY in mind! KNOWING your Why will remind you WHY your worship, and WHY the battle you face is WORTH IT! 
Side note | Do not be afraid to add more 'Whys' to your LIST when they come! In fact, I encourage you to do so! Try memorizing your why in your heart as well. (Your WHY should be coming from your heart.)
